Fret House presents The Troubadour Series: An Evening with Rising Sons: Matt Axton & Zane York

Welcome to the second show of The Fret House's new Troubadour Series. We will host the best singer-songwriters in American-roots music from diverse genres and unparalleled in talent. Up and coming new artists will be featured along with established musicians.
On June 20, in honor of Father's Day, we will feature two sons of folk-rock legends Hoyt Axton ("Joy to the World") & John York (The Byrds), Matt Axton & Zane York. This is the perfect way to celebrate this year's Father's Day eve!

Matt Axton is a gifted singer/songwriter. Granted, that’s a claim made by many artists that inhabit the world of Americana these days, but in Matt’s case, it’s more than a mere boast. The ability to make music is firmly infused in his genes, courtesy of a family history that implanted that ability in him early on.  His latest release is a EP Same Old Story with the single Musclechops.

With a rich reservoir of original tunes — over 300 in fact — and three well received albums (Blue Sky Rain, Matthew C. Axton and Badmoon),  he’s established himself as a prolific and proficient singer, songwriter and guitarist, both on his own and at the helm of his various ensembles.

Zane is the son of John York of The Byrds. His musical creations resist boundaries and genres, allowing his heart and delivery to define the music. His original songs balance vulnerability with grit, blending influences from folk traditions to modern indie sounds, always anchored by soulful storytelling.

As he showed during his set at The Roadhouse Series sold out, Bob Dylan Birthday Tribute show at the Fret House last month, Zane stands in the legacy of great American music and carries his own original voice through his original songs and his excellent interpretation of classic songs of his father's original era.

Zane is the co-founder of Cowboy Poetry L. A.He has recently released a streaming-album/EP with John York, The Apple & the Tree.
