About The Fret House - Fine Instruments, Music Lessons, and Repairs on Electronic and Acoustic Guitars

In November of 1969, Tom Seymour took out a business license and opened the doors of The Fret House in Covina, CA. Originally, the store was located on 2nd Street and had an inventory of only four guitars, two of which actually belonged to Tom. Five years later the store packed up and moved to Rowland Avenue, until finally settling on its current location on Citrus Avenue in downtown Covina in 1986.

From the outset, The Fret House has maintained the resolve to be the best brick-and-mortar, hometown music store it can possible be. Offering much more than fretted instruments, The Fret House is also home to an intimate concert venue which has seen great performances by legendary artists such as Merle Travis, Dick Dale, Muriel Anderson, Andrew York, The L.A. Guitar Quartet, Elizabeth Cotten, John Jorgenson, Ed Gerhard, Laurence Juber and many others, not to mention having one of the longest running Open Mic nights in Los Angeles County on the first Saturday of each month since the fall of 1969.

The Fret House offers a full service repair shop specializing in guitar repair, and we also offer, through our partners, orchestral instrument and amplifier repair. We offer private music lessons on many instruments with a dedicated, experienced teaching staff and we support music education in our local schools with band instrument rentals and fundraisers.

The heart of The Fret House is our amazing inventory of fine guitars and other stringed instruments, including name brands like Fender, Taylor, Martin, Goodall, Godin, Alhambra, Deering, Weber, Eastman, Breedlove and many more. We have now begun to show a portion of our inventory for sale on this website, but there’s much more in the store. If you love guitars, come and see us; we’ll do our best to make your visit a memorable one.
