Roadhouse Productions Presents: A Tribute to Buddy Holly and Friends, Sat, January 31
$ 25.00
The tragic events in Clear Lake, Iowa, in 1959, have by now been engraved onto the heart of popular music as one of the darkest nights in history. The loss of Buddy Holly, J.P. Richardson aka the Big Bopper and Richie Valens created a national sense of grief as the sudden end came to careers that seemed to have endless possibilities.
This concert will pay tribute to these three legends and those who were affected and influenced by that tragic night including Dion & the Belmonts, Waylon Jennings, Bobby Vee, and Bob Dylan. This will be a Story-Concert, as told by your host, Terry Paul Roland, which will take you on an journey through the ramp up to the Winter Dance Party Tour including how Bob Dylan played a role in Buddy Holly’s legacy, how Bobby Vee was forever changed by the events of February 3rd, the famous coin-toss that caused Richie Valens to join the chartered plane fight and the absolutely passionate and dynamic music that became part of rock n roll history.
Our Special Guest will be Buddy Holly performance artist and storyteller, J.P. McDermott. He will present the songs that were recorded by Buddy Holly a few days before he left for the tour in his New York City apartment. It has been released today at Buddy Holly: The Apartment Tapes.
Our bill for this show includes David Serby, Jay Asher, Joel Bennett, The Licata Brothers, Pat Nason, Lisa Sears, and Tim Tedrow. The house band, The Not-Fade-Away-Band will be led by Bartt Warburton, Rick Bagby, Matt Bunsen, and Owen Goldman.
